History
“Launched in 2017 with a prayerful heart, The Maranatha Bible Study continues to grow as a community of worshippers awaiting Christ’s return.”
One Sunday these lines from a hymnal echoed within these church walls: “Beyond the sacred page I seek you, Lord; my spirit waits for you, O living Word.” Out of this prayer, the Bible Study Group was initiated and began on Thursday, 27 July 2017 at Christ Church, Byculla, Mumbai.
The formation of a core group of godly, like-hearted people began almost immediately from within Christ Church as well as from other churches. As the group grew, a new generation of young leaders also joined the team.
The initial weeks consistently drew about twelve people, and over time the fellowship grew both within the church and beyond.
In 2020, during the COVID pandemic, the group moved to Zoom and expanded its reach city-wide, across the country, and internationally. Christ grows His Church of true worshippers irrespective of the challenges like COVID, in His greater Kingdom purpose of “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
During this season, the group intensely studied the Book of Revelation. At its close, the apostle John writes in Revelation 22:20: “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” The word Maranatha alludes to this promise, and so the group came to be known as The Maranatha Bible Study.
